As most of you are aware on November 8, 2013, Typhoon Haiyan created massive destruction to the Philippines. During the typhoon, the Philippines was hit with unprecedented winds in excess of 235km/h, with gusts of 275 km/h and waves as high as 15m. To provide some perspective, Typhoon Haiyan made Hurricane Sandy and Hurrican Katrina, that hit the US, appear like " weak cousins." To date over 2000 deaths, 2500 injured, 600000 displaced and 4 million persons have been affected and those numbers are only expected to get higher.
Some of the other officers and I, are appealing to your generosity. While money can deliver the greatest impact to the area, we are also collecting gently used and new clothing for all age groups, especially shoes. Drop boxes for clothing are at all 5 districts, including the Central Services Building. Cash donation boxes are also at most YRP facilities.
All clothing donations will be shipped directly to the Philippine Red Cross. All cash donations will be given to Red Cross Canada, in support of their ongoing crisis work in the Philippines.
Tax Receipts can be issued for donations made directly to:
Please pass along our appeal to friends and family and contact me if you have any questions.
