NEWMARKET, ON – June 19, 2019 – Today, York Regional Police Association announced $12,000 was raised at the 2019 Memorial Golf Tournament. The rain and cold conditions didn’t stop the 150 golfers from hitting the links at St. Andrew’s Valley Golf Club on Monday, June 10, to help support the Salvation Army Central York Region. For the 31st year, the memorial tournament was held in memory of, and in honour of York Regional Police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Money raised at the tournament will be donated to the Salvation Army Central York Region.
“In the last six years alone, this tournament has raised over $44,000 for the Salvation Army Central York Region,” said Todd Sepkowski, President, York Regional Police Association. “And this year’s tournament was no exception. The participation and generosity of our golfers and sponsors made this tournament a great success and enable us to raise funds so the Salvation Army can continue to provide hope and support to children, families and individuals that need it most.”
A portion of the funds raised from the June 10th tournament will also help to support York Regional Police Association’s Benevolent Fund, which provides assistance to members of the police association and their families due to death, illness or injury.
“The Salvation Army Central York Region has valued the partnership with the York Regional Police Association over the last several years. Their annual and consistent support has enabled us to evolve and expand both our program and facilities, impacting the lives of many children, youth and adults. We are so very grateful for this relationship – we are better together,” said Major Brian Bishop, Salvation Army Central York Region.
There were many sponsors who helped to make the event possible, including The Co-operators, Buttcon, Groundswell, Kleenway and Brauti Thorning. The association also received over 100 tournament donations for the raffle prizes and silent auction from local businesses, community partners and sponsors.
