AURORA, ON – June 8, 2022 – Today, York Regional Police Association (YRPA) announced a new record of $13,000 was raised at the 32nd Annual Memorial Golf Tournament. Over 150 golfers hit the links at RedCrest Golf Club on Monday, June 6, to help support the Salvation Army Central York Region and the YRPA Benevolent Fund. Each year, the York Regional Police Association Memorial Golf Tournament is held in memory of, and in honour of York Regional Police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
“In the last eight years, this tournament has raised over $70,000 for the Salvation Army Central York Region,” said Rob O’Quinn, President, York Regional Police Association. “And this year’s tournament was no exception. The participation and generosity of our golfers and sponsors made this tournament a great success and enabled us to raise funds so the Salvation Army can continue to provide hope and support to children, families and individuals that need it most.”

A portion of the funds raised from the June 6th tournament will also help to support York Regional Police Association’s Benevolent Fund, which provides assistance to members of the police association and their families due to death, illness or injury.
“The last two years, we were unable to hold this tournament in person. But during the pandemic our members saw first-hand the challenges facing our communities, as well as the increased need for funding to support our local food banks, feeding programs, housing and shelters,” said Mike Buchanan, Vice President, York Regional Police Association and Chair of the Memorial Golf Tournament Committee. “With this in mind, our YRPA Board and Executive committed to follow through with our annual support of Salvation Army Central York Region and in 2020 and 2021 we made a donation of $10,000 to Salvation Army Central York Region.”
“The Salvation Army Central York Region is honoured to have a lengthy relationship with the YRPA and receive donations from the Annual Memorial Golf Tournament. With these funds we can enhance local services and programs that impact the lives of vulnerable community individuals and families,” said Major Brian Bishop, Salvation Army Central York Region.
There were many sponsors who helped to make the event possible, including Buttcon, Reliable Insurance Brokers, Allegra Printing Aurora Newmarket, Plus VG Architects and The Co-operators. The association also received over 100 tournament donations for the raffle prizes and silent auction from local businesses, community partners and sponsors.
